Reborn - Yamamoto CHIBITA
The Abyss fandom, I swear, will turn me into a total bitch one day.

Dear Abyss Fandom:

I am not a doujin scanning service.
Neither do I remember actually saying HEY, PLEASE USE MY ICONS WITHOUT ASKING.

It is an entirely different story when people ask nicely. Or if I put icons up for general use. It is also another story if you've actually bothered to take the effort to get to know me. It is also a completely different story if I like you and want to make you happy.

But when total strangers come up to me and demand things as if it was their right, and expect that I have nothing better to do with my time than comply, I draw the line.

You made me smile! *snugs tight* Thank you so much.

Don't worry, I'm not sad. *grin* Maybe the sky is, and it's weeping buckets to make up for my secret emo. ;) Nah, I'm just furious enough to throw several idiots (several! I ask you! They never come singly!) through the Internet, but otherwise it's all good!

YOU. *snug* You just made me laugh, and realise that I was printing the Patent Office's guidelines for examining medical inventions entirely the wrong way. *laughing* Thank you so much, dear.

This "doormat" will bite their feet off at the ankles.

As my permanent markers are running out of ink, that would be most welcome! ♥

You are different, because I love you very much.

*snuggles you*

Where can I yell at them? :O Please let me at them! *gets claws out*

oh, you. I get angry when random strangers ask you to scan things NICELY, I think I am nearly as pissed off as you are! LET ME THROW THEM OFF THE DURIAN, and then let's jump off together. <3
6th-Dec-2006 11:09 am (UTC)

It is okay, there is no need to yell. I'll deal with it myself. By publicly bitching on LJ, and if ANYBODY dares to annoy me after this I shall find great glee in linking them this post ♥

You're so sweet. *grin*

WHAT A WASTE JUMPING OFF THE DURIAN WOULD BE, because then we would have to land where THEY did.
6th-Dec-2006 10:55 am (UTC)
Oh god, do I know that. I had the same problem with the Digimon fandom, though with music instead. See, I own practically every CD ever released for the show. So I thought I'd be nice and share them. So I ripped them all (both as variable bitrate mp3s and 320) and uploaded them to megaupload (which was the best choice at the time). No no no, there were always people who weren't happy with that. Please upload somewhere else! D: ZOMG WE CAN'T DOWNLOAD THEM! >.>;; That's over a hundred CDs, and quite a lot of them were well over 100 megs when zipped. WTF? Get a friend to download them for you. ARGH:H PO#YR(@Y$#(R%VY@#$()!!! RAGERAGERAGE!

*coughs* Ahem. But yeah, fannish entitlement? Pisses me right the fuck off! :D
6th-Dec-2006 11:13 am (UTC)
Luke feels your pain! As I do! *snarls and also RAGE*

The funny thing is that sometimes I feel guilty for not wanting to do it. A part of me thinks that I should try my best. But then another part of me says I've only got so much goodwill and there is absolutely no way I'm going to be nice all the time. I try to. But sometimes one just has to know where to draw the line.

And the worst is when people just have no consideration for whatever else you might be doing and think that all you've got to do in life is to acquiesce to their demands.

But my heavens, I salute your determination. That's some dedication. *grin*

6th-Dec-2006 11:01 am (UTC)

How dare these people! Upsetting my master!

Well at least you are well aware you don't have to do anything at all for these people! Draw the line, and dare them to cross it. >D
6th-Dec-2006 11:14 am (UTC)
I wouldn't do anything if I didn't feel guilty about it. But fortunately, I feel pissed off enough not to feel guilty about it. ♥

Padawan is precious. XD
6th-Dec-2006 11:37 am (UTC)
Who is it. I am very much willing to chouchindou his/her *ss.
6th-Dec-2006 11:58 am (UTC)
Hey :D! I get them first! xDD GO STAND IN LINE. *g*
6th-Dec-2006 11:49 am (UTC)

*is entirely too cheerful about killing stupid fangirls*

But I am very thankful for people like you who do not post things under f-lock. I wouldn't know/own half the things I do if you didn't.

(... and from my replying skills, I may be a stupid fangirl too. D= )
6th-Dec-2006 12:17 pm (UTC)
EEE I love the keywords in your icon. *grin*

That's the thing! I know what it feels like to run up against a f-locked journal and go... okay, I see, ACCESS DE-NIED. So I don't want to subject people to that too.

(DO NOT WORRY ♥ You are no stupid fangirl! *snug*)

Did you hear about the Bankai Bus that's supposedly going around promoting the upcoming Bleach movie? ;)
6th-Dec-2006 11:52 am (UTC)
Ahck, I know how you feel. I make icon posts, ones full of icons that are MEANT for people to take, and I'm flattered when people use those. But all the time I'll see people who have just taken the icons I make for myself (usually just my stupid crack ones, I didn't know anyone else would ever want them anyway, but still), and once or twice not even with credit, even though I specified in the description of my default icon that I would prefer if people didn't. I'd probably be perfectly willing or maybe not, in a few VERY specific cases to let someone use one or a few if they ask, but I never hear anything.
Sometimes it's people I don't even know, too. At least I'm friends with them sometimes, and that's usually okay, but when I'm not...it's weird.

And your doujin scanning is SO generous, you're amazing for doing what you already have, don't let people nag you around for more unless you want to. ♥
6th-Dec-2006 12:14 pm (UTC)
Clearly we share the same icon-making brain! *grin*

Either that, or we listen to too much Shania Twain...

It's crazy, isn't it? I find that the Abyss fandom is actually one of the worst I've ever been in when it comes to icon making and usage. Perhaps I just haven't been in enough. But I'm sorry to hear that you've had similar problems, too.

I never hear anything, either. And it always comes as a mild shock to me when I find my icons used on message boards and other LJs and I feel uncomfortable because it's strange realising that all these people are actually watching you (or at least your icons) - and you never know what else they're up to.

Although I must say I am at times quite amused whwen some of them take my slashy icons and clearly have absolutely no idea that they're meant to be slashy. And when they're adamant no-slash people, too.
6th-Dec-2006 01:24 pm (UTC)
*snugs* Even though I'm not in the fandom, I still feel your pain.

Um. Yeah.

*sends irritating fangirls/boys all evil thoughts she can muster*
6th-Dec-2006 04:13 pm (UTC)
*snugs back* Thank you, dear.

It's true, the English TOA fandom is very young. Both in terms of how long it's been around and the ages of the people in it. I don't think there's a connection between age and the general kindness of the fandom. The most accepting fandom I've ever been in is actually the Star Wars fandom, and considering that about half the fandom there was watching the Luke Skywalker movies when they first came out in theatres, fandom generosity and acceptance isn't age-related.

I do think there is a correlation between the content of the fandom and the kind of people it attracts, though.

I don't know about how Abyss compares to other anime fandoms because I haven't been in many, but I would say the KKM fandom was certainly comparable, and it too was kind - well, if one stayed out of pairing wars, that is. I don't know if I'd say it was one of the most accepting and generous ones, but maybe I'm not feeling very charitable tonight.
6th-Dec-2006 02:28 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry people are bugging you. It's unfortunate that when you do something as a special favor, sometimes people feel they're entitled to whatever it is constantly and on demand. :(

Don't you f-lock your doujin uploads though anyway~?
6th-Dec-2006 04:11 pm (UTC)
Sad fact of human nature, unfortunately. Most people are very nice about it, and make me happy to share, but it's always the one or two - or three or four or five, really, who get on my nerves.

Not only are the doujin uploads flocked, they're also on a special filter. ;)

So true. *sigh*

But your icon is cute!
6th-Dec-2006 05:33 pm (UTC)
Augh, what the hell is up with you, ToA fandom? It's like, you leave behind one problem when you stop being active in one fandom (KH and English-speaking fans freely giving out passwords to locked Japanese sites) and you get a new one in your new fandom (ToA and FREE LOVE MEANS NOT HAVING TO CREDIT!!1!!!)

6th-Dec-2006 06:39 pm (UTC)
Sadly, there are people like that everywhere. Sorry to hear that they've chosen to prey upon your kindness.
Don't you wish there was some way to remotely disconnect their internet? ;D
6th-Dec-2006 07:58 pm (UTC)
You should find their IPs, track down where they live, and go punch them in the face.

6th-Dec-2006 08:20 pm (UTC)
I totally understand that sort of situation - being nice doesn't mean you can demand things of me without manners >_<

I know you'd scan anything I ask for. Duh I would scanlate anything you ask for anyways, Just bribe me.

*plugs an icon to tell kuzus to get lost unless they happen to be cute little redheads*
7th-Dec-2006 05:47 pm (UTC) - yes, but shhhhhhhh~
Very true. One or two I can dismiss, but four or so is a little more than I can handle all at once.

Even cute little redheads need manners, too. Otherwise they end up in the trash, for real. And these days I just might be the one to put them there until they learn how to behave.

I know you'd scan anything I ask for.
... is it so obvious must you make it so obvious? Yes, but that's because you're special.

You mean, even pr0n that burns my eyes out? >D
6th-Dec-2006 08:55 pm (UTC)
And that is the reason why I have never ever post anything in the community (except the TotA novel, because it would hurt to kill another person's novel's spine XD). Once some people notice you scan loads of goodies, they will start asking for more 8D.

So tell them to back off and get their own doujin, mwahahaha >D.
8th-Dec-2006 04:00 am (UTC) - I love your icon.
Actually - thank you for this. That didn't actually occur to me until I read what you said and realised it was true. It is an awful truth that when people notice, they do start demanding more. Friends are okay - usually because I'd do it for them anyway, and they're usually very nice about it. But total strangers is a different matter.

XD ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA. My heavens, the price of Abyss doujin on ebay, is a nightmare.
6th-Dec-2006 09:46 pm (UTC)
That's absolutely sucky. I hope it doesn't happen again, geez♥
6th-Dec-2006 11:30 pm (UTC)
.......... D8< That's horrible! Gah, I can't beileve that person! I'm so sorry. D:

And I veryly hope I never did something to upset you! D:
7th-Dec-2006 02:17 am (UTC)
*huggles* I know I demand too much... Uhmm... sorry?^^;; *smacks self*

I'll draw you more Mieu once I'm free, just to cheer you up.
7th-Dec-2006 12:21 pm (UTC)
=( Here I was getting a ... generally... ... okay... impression of the fandom, besides the rampant Japanese fanart stealing which pisses me off to no end... but the fact that it seems pretty tolerant of a lot of things that some fandoms just aren't had given me a bit of a better expectation. (I mean, seeing a discussion on GameFAQs between gals and guys about the hotness of Guy is something that made me do a double-take.)

But there are idiots in every fandom and as kasumi_blue said, the more you're known, the more thay gravitate toward you. You'd be surprised by the amount of people that mention your name as by how they came by a resource or a fannish object in the fandom. So I do believe you have some large degree of popularity--or at least, name recognition.

Just shove those idiots aside. I hope the other people you know in the fandom outweight the stupidity. Or at least are willing to kiss your booboos when the stupidity starts to burn. =O

As for myself, I'm highly appreciative for what you've offered to the fandom so far. ♥ The fact that you can be arsed to offer anything is great on its own, IMHO... (Scanning doujins is a complete pain in the ass.)

I always tell myself, though, that no fandom can be as hideously stupid as Kingdom Hearts' fandom. XD; So there's some consolation there? /ok
8th-Dec-2006 03:56 am (UTC) - (the other riku agrees with your riku)
I do think it is a generally okay fandom. The rampant Japanese fanart stealing is part of what makes me wary about sharing, but I figure the risk is always there - it's just much more of a risk in this fandom. I do love some things about GameFAQs - once there was an utterly hilarious pairing discussion and people were insisting the true pairing of the game was Tear/Tokunaga, among others, like Van/Beard.

Truth be told I am surprised - I don't think I'm half as active as most people are, it's just that whenever official artwork and manga comes my way I like other people to know about it 'cause I think they'd get as much joy as I do from it. I think I find it strange because I just see myself as someone who spends too much time thinking about a game. *laughing*

Thank you. *smiles* There are a lot of amazing people in this fandom, and yes, they outweigh the stupidity anytime.

You're most welcome, and thank you. Your artwork and insights have given me a lot of joy and food for thought. *grin* (It is! I thought I was the only one who found doujin scanning intensely annoying! But I always think it's worth it. *grin*)

*grin!* Except maybe the FMA fandom. But KH won with the fanart debacle.

Thank you so much. *smiles* This really helped.

This is what the Qlipoth is for! Throw 'em all in, mate!

8th-Dec-2006 03:56 am (UTC)
but what if it's too good for them?! < / rage >

*hugs tight* Thank you so much, dear.
7th-Dec-2006 03:45 pm (UTC)
I also hope it was not me who angered you as well. I really don't like asking things from people, but when I do I always make an offer (I just don't like getting things for free - I just don't believe that is how the world works) and even then I ask if the person would mind or only if they had the time. I know how much of a pain it is to scan doujin (especially when books just don't want to bend the way you want them too x.x ), but I do like to share what I have...even if I get nothing in return, it still makes me happy. So I guess it would upset me as well if people demanded because they assumed I could always scan them.
If you are not referring to me, then I hope whoever asked will leave you alone. Either way, I am quite sorry this had to happen. I do hope you feel better, no one deserves to be stepped on.
10th-Dec-2006 01:22 pm (UTC)
Been reading your journal for quite sometime, and I sympathize with you.
*creates Tokunaga and enlarges it so that it will hug aefallen*
Cheer up!!

By the way...can I add you as a friend?*sparkly eyes*
