Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Fanwork Linkfest
30th-Jul-2007 02:50 am
Reborn - Yamamoto CHIBITA
Reading this last book in the series felt, to me, like I'd been given one massive present, and opened it only to find it filled with even more tiny presents, some which I hadn't been expecting, some which I'd never thought I'd get, some of which were pure gold, and all of which were utterly magical. I don't think it's her best work by far, but I do think it a passable way on which to end the series. (Well, anything's better than the book version of Order of the Phoenix).

WARNING: Spoilers Lurk Behind This LJ-Cut and in All Links Behind It.

JKR, the cheat. She said she'd only kill off two characters, and she killed off some four times that number. Hey, an owl and a house-elf are characters to me, okay?

Also, Neville, Hermione, and Mrs Weasley rock so hard.

As the fandom creation that has made me laugh the hardest, I proudly present:
the_ass_ship.
Harry/Draco for the next generation.

You should also know that this community existed two days after the book's release. XD Don't you love this fandom? Two days after the release of the book, and we're already slashing the next generation.

Also: Deathly Hallows: The Rude Bits. To quote, "Suggestive lines, double entendres, phrases that make you snigger immaturely and uncontrollably." My favourite?

Hermione: "Wands are only as powerful as the wizards who use them. Some wizards just like to boast that theirs are bigger and better than other people’s."

Although Harry Potter and his Seven Naked Replicas comes a very close second, and happens in the second chapter of the book:

"He felt like asking them to show a little more respect for his privacy as they all began stripping off with impunity, clearly much more at ease with his body then they would have been with their own."

One post-DH Fic I Liked: "Hell was, Snape decided, a crowded railway platform." Post-DH, Snape POV, so much love. Has a sequel, Mischief Managed - similar premise, Weasley twins POV.

Several wonderful links among the few that follow came by me thanks to mangy_mongrel, ice-skating partner, fellow Potter fan, and all-round very fun individual with whom to share fandoms with. ♥

Here's a link about What Happened Next - more details about the Epilogue that didn't make it into the book. So much love for Hermione choosing a career in Magical Law. little_ribbon told me about the JRK webchat about the books including DH, and several plot points that didn't make it to the books, and the webchat transcript is available here at leaky cauldron, and hpana.

The thing I am genuinely glad that arose out of DH is? grindeldore. Yep. A Grindelwald/Dumbledore community. Because Grindelwald was pretty and had long blond hair and laughed like a dark Robin Hood stealing the Elder Wand from German wandmakers. And because the two of them together had enough brains for the entire wizarding world.

If you don't already follow potterpuffs, check out her Deathly Hallows artwork and icons here and here.

General Articles/Spoilers
Potterdammerung - a hilarious take/summary on DH, by way of fontech. Loved this!

There's an interesting young!James/Severus doujin here on yaoi_daily. First chapter is somewhat non-con, though, just to warn you, although the link I've given you is the second chapter, and it is work-safe.

What do you mean I'm Dumbledore?!

You scored as Albus Dumbledore, Strong and powerful you admirably defend your world and your charges against those who would seek to harm them. However sometimes you can fail to do what you must because you care too much to cause suffering.

I've really enjoyed all the Deathly Hallows related reactions I've come across. Both the wailing and gnashing of teeth along with all the "I KNEW IT"s are quite entertaining, as are the more reserved discussions about the entire thing and the fan glee. Definitely entertaining!

And yes... A/AS... bwahahahahahaha.
29th-Jul-2007 07:13 pm (UTC)
AS/S

;) Oops, typed that up wrong... hahahahaha.
29th-Jul-2007 07:29 pm (UTC)
Hullo! Hope things are going well for you, haven't heard from you lately. ,-_-

OH GOD. I developed a SUPER CRUSH on Neville after this book. HE IS THE ULTIMATE AWESOME.

ASS...it's...Sometimes I'm torn between love and utter bemusement for/at the HP fandom. ♥

I was kind of pissed, though; I wanted Draco to have a much more dramatic role, and lo and behold, JKR did the same thing she did to him in every book save the sixth; made him a cowardly plot device.

I REALLY HATED THAT. Poor Draco. ;_;
29th-Jul-2007 07:49 pm (UTC)
*snug!* Regrettably, things could definitely have gone better for me these few weeks. *wry smile!* But thank you so much for asking! *snug*

XDDD!!! I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN! *beams* THANK YOU THANK YOU for crushing on Neville, that kid totally needs more love! And OH A++++ on him finishing off Nagini and making his parents proud! And my heavens, Neville's grandmother was so kickass. I think it runs in the Longbottom family. ;)

XDDDDD For me on the AS/S count, it is all bemusement and amusement. XDDDD I used to be a Harry/Draco fan, until I went off into the Snape/Harry ranks - and now I'm relatively impartial. But MY HEAVENS GUYS, SLASHING CHARACTERS for whom there is LITERALLY NO CHARACTERISATION TOTALLY CRACKS ME UP. XD

!!! I agree completely! Draco deserved a much better role than he got! His greatest achievement was probably in his Malfoy role, to show that even within the Death Eaters there were people who weren't 100% behind Voldemort. And that lovely touch with Narcissa Malfoy lying to Voldemort about Harry being alive, after Harry told her that Draco was still alive. ♥ omg. But Draco totally deserved a bigger and better role. Maybe they'll fix it when they make the movie version. ;)
29th-Jul-2007 08:29 pm (UTC) - ... déjà vu? xD
HEY! WHERE HAVE I SEEN THIS BEFORE? It looks so familiar! ;)

...this totally makes me wonder if the comment in my LJ is the original or just a replica. *giggles!* Thank you so much for sharing all these wonderful links, though! The only time I ever seem to leave the safety of LJ is when you link me something interesting! xD

I just realised the person posting that doujinshi on yaoi_daily is my friend horrificwhisper! xD
30th-Jul-2007 01:55 am (UTC)
Oh, yours was the original. ;) I just improved it and made it an LJ post. I'd linked so many of my favourite links on that comment that I thought Damned if I'm going to retype this and rework the html all over again when I want to make this post. And so I added more links, more quotes, and took out my response to your post, and here you have this!

You're welcome! A lot of these links were made to be shared! With love!

And XD! I'm always following non-LJ links. LJ can only go so far, you know! ;) And especially for fandoms in the days when LJ didn't exist!
29th-Jul-2007 09:15 pm (UTC)
If you think the creation of the AS/S community is crazy, get this: people were shipping them/writing fics/creating comms the week before the book release after reading the leaked book.

Now that's devotion - writing stuff for the book that might be a fake XD

I'm still on book 5 (slogging through it painfully) but I know enough about Deathly Hallows to make me wince. Maybe you have to be a long-term fan to appreciate it more, ^^;;
30th-Jul-2007 01:52 am (UTC)
Oh, your icon is so great, and wins Auldrant. Oh. ♥ *GOES HOWL WITH LAUGHTER IN A QUIET CORNER*

XD! My timeline for fandom begins with the official release of the book - not that I wasn't tracking down all the spoilers for laughs before the official release. I would tell you more about the spoilers and the fake spoilers, and the spoilers I thought were fake but turned out to be real, but I'm not sure you want to be spoiled even further, so I'll leave this til further notice. ;)

XD! I think whether you're a long-term fan or not, DH can still make everyone wince! ;) Pain is universal! Length of involvement in fandom is just a number! ;)

AS/S IS MY NEW OTP. My friend and I have an entire character sketch done for them. 8D
30th-Jul-2007 06:00 pm (UTC)
You guys. Precisely the type of BURNING LOVE fandom activity I was thinking about. ;)

Character sketch! Oh my God, do you guys? Share, please, if you feel comfortable with it as and when you're done! XDDD
30th-Jul-2007 05:26 am (UTC)
Chris! This is wonderful. I've fallen out of fandom so much OTL so much so that the possibility of Grindelwald/Dumbledore never occured to me. I am horrified! The setting alone - the lush English countryside, or the beautiful German boys pastures - aaaahn ♥

Anyway I hope you are better. TAKE CARE OK. *hug*
30th-Jul-2007 06:03 pm (UTC)
*snuuugs* WHY HELLO THERE, YOU! ♥ Good to see you! *hugs!* I totally understand the falling-out-of-fandom when RL gets as hectic as it has been for you, though - you! Keep yourself safe, though, we should all miss you terribly in the event of anything happening to you!

XDDDD I must admit the only reason Grindelwald/Dumbledore occurred to me was how pretty Grindelwald was, because I am a sucker for anyone with long blond hair, and therefore seek to slash them as soon as practically possible. Besides! They were so close in the two months in which Grindelwald was visiting in Godric's Hollow, entire pairings have been made of less than that! ;)

*hugs tight!* I hope I am better soon, too. *HUGS YOU* Thank you so much ♥

Oh, man, for a moment there I couldn't decide if it was Tear (looks like Tear's hair, with the monochrome colouring) or Van (because when in doubt, it's Van in your icons XD) in your icon, and it is only now I realise it is Luke on his knees. XD

XD My brother's a little like you: he staunchly refuses to go anywhere near Potter-anything. I'm not sure if you're quite as adamant as he is. ;)

omg don't buy a copy, just get the illegal download XD - I mean, just borrow a copy off a friend! ;) Or sit in any bookstore that will permit it and read it! If there is a Borders where you are, they are usually quite kind about it.

XDDDD Join away! ;) For me, at least, you don't need to read the book to be a fan of a pairing with such an innuendo-happy acronym! ;)

30th-Jul-2007 06:50 am (UTC) - When you link something I linked, it always makes me blush. XP XD
Hello hello hello! XD I loved that fic rec, but I loved even more the continuation to that - Mischief Managed. AND OMG, she's the author of Networking! XDD
30th-Jul-2007 06:24 pm (UTC) - Baby I want you to know that the icon I'm using is titled, "You're My Magic Moment!" ♥
Because you make everything special. ♥

*grin!* Thank you so much for linking the continuation! I didn't realise there was a sequel to that, so thank you for the heads-up! ;)

! OH MY GODS Networking! That really fun Mac-PC fic you linked me! ♥ Thank you so much for telling me that! ;) LOVED 'EM ALL!
30th-Jul-2007 02:00 pm (UTC)
I loved the post-DH snape fic! The sequel was lovely too =D

(Especially since I also like Pratchett's Death very much XD)
30th-Jul-2007 06:28 pm (UTC)
*beams!* I'm so glad you enjoyed it! To me, that means it was objectively good! *grin* Such a lovely story: it said so much with just those words. ;) I didn't realise there was a sequel until people told me about it, and after I read it, I agree with you! ;)

(SAME HERE. ♥ Such a huge fan of Pratchett's death. ;) So amused at the Voldemort-Harry soul-fragment not having a ticket. XD)
30th-Jul-2007 03:56 pm (UTC)

Hey you *hugs*

I need to say it outloud -- but, I was SO SO SO upset and angry when all the Slytherin's got up to leave. Why can't just one of us be good?!

Otherwise, I loved the Slash potential for the next gen. It makes me so happy. Also, the no-name wife of Draco is so the perfect Mary Sue (do you think he'd have married a muggle to atone for all the bad things in his life?).
30th-Jul-2007 06:40 pm (UTC)
*snuuug* Hello there, you! ♥ I hope you're doing okay! (And I have, unfortunately, no Draco at the moment, so I am using an icon of a blond student in Draco's year at Hogwarts. ;) I know Luna doesn't quite equate, but she's the closest thing!) XD

! *snuuug* I know what you mean! As one reviewer I've read said, even completely pragmatically speaking, What, you mean none of the Slytherins wanted to take a chance on what could be the winning side? Though I did think Lucius and Narcissa were very sweet when trying to protect Draco and find out if he was alright, especially when Narcissa lied to Voldemort for Harry, when he told her Draco was still alive.

XDD!! I'm so glad the next-gen slash makes you happy! It's amazing how fandom is making so much out of the little the Epilogue gives us, but it sure is impressive to watch! And I xD at Draco's wife being a potential Mary Sue, as this is so true. XD I also think Draco marrying a muggle is a GREAT IDEA, though I think his pureblood supremacist ideas would be too strong for that. Great idea, though, and I would totally support it!

The release of the latest movie and book hasn't swept me away into HP fandom, but I saw the quiz you posted and my curiosity got the better of me. *grins*

You scored as Severus Snape, Well you're a tricky one aren't you? Nobody quite has you figured out and you'd probably prefer it stayed that way. That said you are a formidable force by anyone's reckoning, but there is certainly more to you than a frosty exterior and a bitter temper.

I had to take a tie-breaker between Snape and Hermione. ;) Also, lol 60% for Lord Voldemort.
31st-Jul-2007 04:29 am (UTC) - Why hello, Jack! This is Tyler speaking -
I found this email caught in my spam filter and I thought it might amuse you:

I have no idea how it got there, but boy am I glad that it did! *grin*

And your quiz result! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥, ENDLESSLY! I love Snape to pieces! It's so cool that you're tied between two of my favourites, and I love that you're 60% Voldemort. ;)

XDDD! To be honest, the release of the book and the latest movie made me quite tired of Potter fandom, because my reaction was Again? I've only just recovered from the last Potter movie! But it was pretty good, and I'm distantly interested as opposed to passionately in love - enough to find most links amusing, but not enough to live, breathe and die for the fandom. XDDDD
